Oaty Applesauce Cookies – How to get your Fruit-phobe of a Toddler to Eat Some Apples

Another attempt at asking Weasel which format would she be happy to try some fruit, and unsurprisingly cookies were the chosen one. She requested apples and pears, but what I had to hand were those Ella’s ‘The Green One’ pouches, so that would have to do. The smoothness might work to my advantage, and I suspect it did. It was roughly based on this recipe, found by Pinterest, but given I changed pretty much all the ingredients, I’m going to count it as original 🙂

Ingredients: (2 pouches are in the photo, but I only used one in the end)

1 egg, 1 pouch of baby fruit purée (or actual applesauce if you wanted), 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup apple juice, 3/4 cup oats, 3/4 flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1 tbsp of vanilla. This made 10 small cookies, so I would probably double the recipe next time as it barely catered for the small picnic I was going to.

As I don’t really read steps, I put everything in a bowl and mixed it up by hand. 14 minutes in the oven at 170c (fan assisted) and they were lovely and chewy. I could have eaten the whole lot in one sitting and wouldn’t have felt to guilty as they’re relatively healthy as they don’t have any butter or oil in them. Weasel and the Ninja both loved them, so these are going to become a staple in our house.
