Home Made Manwiches
In the US we just dump a can of sauce on some meat to make sloppy joes. I’d like to think of this as a more refined version (if you can call anything refined that uses ketchup as an ingredient 🙂 You can spice it up with a little more, add more vinegar or sugar to taste or add veggies to feel less guilty about the lack of vitamins in the dish. This is my ‘oh crap, all we have in the fridge is minced meat and I can’t remember what we ever use that for’ dish.
1&1/2 lb ground beef (or one large pack in the UK)
1/2 chopped onion
Chili powder to your taste
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp vinegar
water if too dry
8oz of ketchup, 250ml -ish (or a damn good squeeze)
Brown off meat and onions in a little oil, drain. Add all ingredients.
I add corn and/or mushrooms to make it feel a little more of a balanced meal. Serve on toasted buns.
